About Judy

My journey began in 2000 when I graduated from Lancaster School of Cosmetology as an Esthetician and received my License to perform facials, waxing and make-up services. I began working in an Aveda Concept Salon in Lancaster, PA a position that was to be a stepping stone to a career working as a Medical Esthetician. My goal was to work for a dermatologist or plastic surgeon performing medical skin care treatments that would make a difference in my clients lives. In my mind, spa services were about fluff and pampering, and did not offer the kind of results one could expect to achieve through medical procedures. But after a few months working in the spa I began to realize the healing power of touch and how trans-formative it could be. My client’s response to nurturing touch, calming aromas and a soothing environment was profound. What we see on our face is often a reflection of what is happening inside, and we know that stress damages every organ in the body, including the skin. In a spa environment I was able to give my clients the opportunity to recover from the nonstop stress of daily life. To me, the change that really matters is the kind that can be better achieved through a more holistic approach to skin care. I continue to offer high touch, high technology plant based skin care treatments.

In 2007 I had the good fortune to become an Aveda certified Skin Care educator, teaching continuing education to Aveda spa professionals. Although no longer active in that program, I continue to offer education classes to my co-workers and believe that client education is a crucial part of the services I offer. My philosophy is based on the belief that because we are a part of nature, we function best when the products we put on our skin also come from nature.
The purpose of this blog is to provide education and information to anyone interested in learning not just the “how” of skin care, but also the “why”. By better understanding the effects of what you put on your skin, the better you’ll be able to make good choices about your skin care. The number of different skin care products available is overwhelming and it is my hope that what you learn here will help you make good choices.

Having worked with Aveda  for the past 13 years, I am very knowledge about the products and give them my highest recommendation.  However, this blog is not affiliated with the company and I make no money or fringe benefits from endorsing the products here.
I encourage you to leave comments or ask questions, so I can provide content you are interested in. For anyone living in or visiting the Lancaster County area who might be interested in scheduling an appointment for a facial or waxing service, please send me an email and I’ll let you know how to contact the salon.

Judy, thanks again for your assistance with a skin consultation on Saturday! I was glad to meet you. Amazingly, I already see benefits from the Aveda sensitive line in 24 hours! It was counter intuitive to stop treating my skin like “oily” skin, but today my skin felt balanced, and there was no redness, flaking, or stinging. I look forward to continuing on with the regimen and the new way of thinking about my skin, and hope to have my first facial with you soon. Thanks again for the time you spent listening and advising me.

You are welcome! You already have great instincts about your skin, you just needed confirmation and reassurance. I am thrilled that you are already seeing results. It was my pleasure to help you, it’s wonderful when someone “gets” what I’m saying. Please do schedule a facial soon, you won’t be disappointed.
